I Love your new video, lots of useful information!
I have just one question about the ovulation testing... Should I start testing from day 10 of my cycle no matter what length my cycle is? I also just want to make sure that by day 10 its meant that counting the first day of your period as day one?
Also, Congratulations to Nicolette on her pregnancy!! I hope you enjoy your new journey! :-D
In answer to the question, "Can you ovulate while on your period?"
"Yes", you can ovulate while on your period, but this is very rare. If you think you may be ovulating during your period, using ovulation predictor tests can help to determine this.
Also, if you notice stretchy cervical mucus mixed with blood during your period, then that's a sign that you could be close to ovulation.
Again, this is rare, but my midwife told me of a client she had that got pregnant while on her period - it was the only time during the month they made love.
I have an important question. My husband and I are trying to conceive. I went to the pharmacist to buy some lubricant. I asked them if KY Jelly kills sperm and if there was a difference between KY Jelly and Preseed. The lady said that there is no difference and KY Jelly in fact has less ingredients so I decided to buy that as it is much cheaper than preseed. Was the imformation I was given incorrect and should I go back and purchase preseed??
Hi Kirstyn My question is about ovulation. I am 23 years old and very long cycles since leaving the pill 4 months ago. 39 Days, 42 Days and the last one was 50 days. Someone has told me that if your cycle is longer than 35 days, that you are not ovulating,is this true? I did have what seemed like EWCM on day 37 of my last cycle. Thanks for all your wonderful information. It's great to get advice from someone who has been there! Thank you
Thank you, again, to everyone who has asked questions. I'm trying my best to answer them all.
In response to the question about the Pharmacist suggesting that K-Y was fine to use while TTC...
The Pharmacist was probably not aware of studies that have been done on K-Y Jelly and other standard lubricants which show that these lubricants do indeed kill sperm, and some actually kill them equally as well as spermicides (though they should not be used as a contraceptive).
Here's an article that was published in May, 2008 discussing a new sperm friendly lubricant which has a patent pending and the testing associated with it.
And here's a really great interview with Dr. Joanna Ellington who explains in more detail why PreSeed is the best lubricant (other than your own) to use when trying to conceive, and she also comments that doctors often recommend any water based lubricant (which can hinder conception) simply because they are uninformed.
Hope these resources help to clarify what the best lubricant is to use when trying to get pregnant. Taking things slowly so that you produce more of your own lubrication is ideal, but not always possible so PreSeed is a good alternative.
My husband and I are going to start TTC. I went off the pill in May and haven't had a period yet. I have bought ovulation tests. My question is if I don't have a period when do I know to do the ovulation tests?
I am 23 and I stopped taking the birth control Diane, in May. I had a short period but have not had a period since. I know you should wait 3 months but I want a baby desperatly! I called my doctor today and he recommended I come in to do some tests and check everything out. The secretary mentioned that I may have to go on the pill for 3 months to start my period. I'm not too happy about this as I want to conceive as quickly as possible!! Can they not prescribe medications that start my period or start ovulation rather than putting me back on the pill? Thanks for all your help. It's nice to have some informative advice!!!
I went to my OBGYN today. He said my uterus looks good but endometrial lining is a bit thin. Also I haven't had my period in a month and half. He sent me to do a blood test and said I'd probably have to go on Provera to make me have a "period". Please can you tell me more about provera and if it will help me to conceive quickly? Regards Kim
Like everybody else I would like to appreciate your work so much, and thank you for the wonderful videos.I liked everything about the video, your tone,voice,information.Lovely.We are newly weds, trying to concieve since 3 months now. Will use the information in the video and hoping to get pregnant soon. Thanks again.Waiting for new video..
We have ben TTC for about 4 years. Ihave had about 4 misscarriages in the last 3 years. I am charting my BBT and last month I had an impantation dip at 7DPO and a positive blood test at 12 DPO, but the level of HCG was 5.3. They told me to come back in a week for a second test and got my period on 16DPO. It seems that I can get pregnant, but my body is not keeping the baby. Are there any foods or herbs that can improve my progesterone levels after ovulation. I am currently taking folic acid and thyroid medication due to an underactive thyroid.
I've been trying some of your techniques, and I think I may be pregnant, but from what I've read, it's too soon to tell with a home pregnancy test (my period shouldn't start for another 3 or 4 days). But I'm dying to know! My breasts and nipples are more tender than usual, I feel bloated, I've been exhausted and have had a headache for the past several days. When (do you think) is the earliest time I could take a home pregnancy test?
I'm happy to hear you've been using some of the tips I've been sharing to help you get pregnant.
If you test with an early pregnancy test, you should be able to get a positive test 4 days before your period is due. These tests will often say something like "get results up to 7 days before your missed period". These tests are more sensitive than others.
To see a picture of a positive pregnancy test at 9 days post ovulation (5 days before her period was due) take a look at the Early Pregnancy Test page on my Birth, Baby And Mom website.
Be sure to post back here if you do get a positive test and share with everyone what you did differently this month to conceive.
hi kirstyn I have a question my ovulation test came out possitive for five days between 08/05/08 and 08/10/08 I did not know when I was atualy ovulating , we made love twice in those days...it has been maybe three days and I'm getting realy bad cramps and lot of lower back pain my period in july came on the 18 and ended on the 24th.how soon can I take the preagnancy test? thank you very much evelyn
There should have been one or two days that your ovulation test was darker than the others (if you have the kind where you can see how light/dark the line is).
Judging by the day when you got the darkest line and judging by the day when you had the most fertile "egg white" cervical mucus, you could assume that you ovulated the day after those two signs (which should have coincided on the same day).
If you didn't have any "egg white cervical mucus" then it's difficult for sperm to make the journey to the egg.
But just assuming that you ovulated on the 11th, the day after the last day of your positive ovulation test, you could test with a positive test 9 or 10 days after that, so around the 20th or 21st. This would give the baby a chance to implant and start producing hCG which is the hormone that the pregnancy tests pick up.
You would need to use a highly sensitive early pregnancy test to get a positive that early.
Hi Kirstyn, I have watched some of your videos and they are very helpful, but I have a question for you. I have always wanted to know if you are too overweight then can you still get pregnant? I am not like really bad but I probably need to lose a little bit of weight but I was just wondering.
Hi Kirstyn, thanks for a wonderful site, and wonderful videos. It is by far the most helpful i have ever found on the internet. My question is: i have always had a regular periods, usually about 28-29 days. No longer. This month me and my fiance had sx around the time of ovulation and i have now missed my period, i am 9 days late now. The only other typical pregnancy symptoms i have had is feeling nauseaus (but not actually sick)and sometimes pains in my stomach a little, just like i am about to come on my period but haven't. However, i have taked two pregnancy tests so far. One when i was 3 days late for my period, and another yesterday, 8 days late for my period. But both are showing negative. I'm really confused, and my fiance is confused i'm pregnant. But i don't want to believe it just to be let down and get my hopes up for nothing. Surely if the tests are showing negative, then i'm not pregnant?
I've heard that sometimes stress and extreme weight loss or gain can cause for my period to be late but neither apply to me.
Would love to know what you think about all of this as i'm confused and would like an explanation of some sort.
It sounds like your body is trying to ovulate. The LH (Luteinizing Hormone)is increasing but not surging enough to actually cause the follicle to release the egg.
This can happen every now and again. Try increasing your water intake each day so that you're getting plenty of pure water. This can help to move old hormones out of your body which can help you to ovulate.
I'll have more information to help you shortly but for now you can start with being sure you're drinking plenty of pure water. Some nutritionists recommend 8 - 8 ounce glasses of water a day, others say to drink 50% of your body weight in ounces each day (so if you're 100 lbs., that would be 50 ounces of water a day.
Best wishes for a quick pregnancy and I'll be in touch soon!
This is Jane here again.I asked you in my first question regarding ovulation process. This time I have few other hassles regarding detecting pregnancy. Well,my last periods started on 20th Oct & this month in nov i didnot get my periods yet (i.e 25th nov)& I have never been so late .I did digital pregnancy test on 24th oct and it was negetive. In all, symptoms like:
1.Missed Period
2.Menstrual Cramps a week before periods were due & on the date periods were due
3.Pain in Lower left abdomen (only once)
Since preg. test got negative, I am really curious to know what is happening.I have a doctor's appt. but after 1.5 weeks due to Thanksgiving.Plz help me what does it means
Hormones can do the oddest things to our bodies. I've had sore breasts and slight cramping like I get when I'm pregnant, only to find out that my estrogen was too high and that's what was causing those symptoms, not the hormone levels that change during pregnancy...(and I figured out a way to balance those so that this month I'm on day 29 in my cycle, and no sore breasts - whew!)
It's good that you have an appointment scheduled with your doctor. On very rare occasion there can be complications with early pregnancy that would give a negative test result, when in fact you're pregnant, and the doctor can help with that.
But much more often, it's just our "out of balance" hormones which make us think we're pregnant, when in fact, the negative pregnancy test is accurate.
The digital pregnancy tests are not as sensitive as the early pregnancy tests, so it can take a bit longer to get a positive with those. However, if you tested at least 13 days post ovulation, with the digital test, and got a negative, it's likely accurate. If you tested earlier than 13 days post ovulation you can test again 3 days later and see if the result is positive.
I know this time is very difficult and confusing (to say the least). The best thing you can do is to test again in a few days.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm glad the information I shared helped you to be able to read your body's fertility signs so you knew exactly when to make love. That's great!
Send me an e-mail at KirstynSierra @ gmail.com and I'll send you a little gift of congratulations.
For those still trying, I've been working hard to put together more information which will help you. Keep an eye on your e-mail box as I'll be sending you updates over the next few days.
Rupa here. I have seen this video and it's really helpful for me. I learnt so many things after seen your tips.
One thing i don't understand about pre - seed lubricant. There are tubes and some pouches too. Which one is the best one to use and if i use do i get any side effects?
Thanks for sharing the videos and tips. Just wanted to ask you a question on Ovulation during the periods. If someone does ovulate during the periods then how long would be luteal phase be for (post ovulation). Can there be a possibility of ovulating during periods and having a 28 day cycle ?
I'm wondering if you have any advice for a 43 yr old trying to conceive for the first time. We have been TTC for 2 years with no luck after 2 failed IVFs, acupuncture and Chinese herbs. This month, my period is late and my ovary is in a lot of pain. I have taken 3 pregnancy tests so I know I'm not pregnant. Just wondering how to get my hormones and body back into balance. We're about to start talking to adoption agencies so I am realistic about my chances of getting pregnant - just want to hold the space for a biological baby if that's possible. Thanks for all your useful advice.
If you're older and trying to conceive adopting a fertility friendly lifestyle and diet can be very helpful in boosting egg quality, regulating cycles and preventing miscarriage.
I've created a course to help you with this and you can learn more about it here:
hi Kirstyn i subscribed here last month when i was about to enter my fertile window.. the videos and files that you sent were really helpful for me in understanding this whole concept.. i am really thankful to you... and the great news is "i am pregnant" ,, thanks God thank u once again and i wish u continue your services for the betterment of all the couples who r trying for babies.. Faiza
First of all thank u so much for providing such useful info.., i like to share with u that since the time we have started trying for baby, my cycles range from 27 to 33 days sometimes. My age is 30 years and have been trying for over 4 months now.i always feel soreness in my breasts after i ovulate, but since last month the pain started before ovulation and i have not ovulated till now and today is my 18th day of cycle.can i ovulate after 17th or 18th day also. pl advise as i am very confused.
Yes, you can ovulate anytime in your cycle. If you ovulate too early the egg may not be mature enough, but typically you will ovulate 14 days before the start of your next cycle.
What this means is...if you end up having a 36 day cycle, count back 14 days, and you would find yourself ovulating on day 22 in your cycle.
Watch for the signs I teach you to look for and use an ovulation predictor test to confirm what your body is telling you and you'll know when you're ovulating.
Having breast pain after ovulation is common - often times it means there is means you are estrogen dominant (not enough progesterone to balance the estrogen) and this can be a cause of very early miscarriages - so early that you may not know you conceived.
Progesterone is responsible for building the uterine lining so there's a good, nourishing area for baby to implant and grow.
Having breast pain before ovulation can, again, mean that you've got an over abundance of estrogen. Typically estrogen is dominant in the first half of the cycle when the egg is growing. At ovulation and after, then progesterone becomes the dominant hormone.
If you find you're not conceiving you may want to do some natural things to balance your hormones.
You can learn more about that here: http://www.BabyFriendlyBody.com
Thank u so much for your reply.I only got more than faint line for two days and thought that it would go darker today being 18th day, but sadly there was not even a faint line today. There was not much mucus also as we tried baby making also.Does that mean that i would not be ovulating this month as colour of line has gone from little dark to none. Please advise. Thanks again for the earlier reply.
That is what it sounds like to me. It sounds like your body was trying to ovulate so the luteinizing hormone was starting to surge, but didn't actually surge and now the follicle that the egg is in will likely turn into a cyst which is typical for anovulatory cycles.
I had that happen for a few months when I was trying for my fourth baby so I just worked on my nutrition, and didn't focus on baby making. Then one day I felt that egg white cervical mucus and took an ovulation test, and sure enough it was positive - we got pregnant that month.
Work on creating heightened fertility and you should start ovulating regularly.
hi kirstyn wonder if you could help me my last period was on the 2nd of march it lasted 29 days its my first true period since stopping the pill in january anyway i bought a ovulation kit on 11th of march test showed a faint line so tested again next day faint line then on 3rd day no line apart from the line that tells you the test has worked correctly could i have ovulated earlier like while im still on my period im so confused
Hi Kirstyn, I have been watching your videos and they have taught me so much. I am very grateful that you would share your wisdom with people like myself, and I would like to say thank you for taking the time to share with each one of us what you know. I however, am getting some mixed signals from my body. My period was due on February 22, I have tested since then on March 1,6,and 13. All three tests have come up negative and now I'm three weeks late today. This morning my breasts are just a little tender, but as of yet this is the only symptom. What should I do? Well, I just want to say thank you again. You are an amazing woman to share with us your knowledge.
Thank you for your kind words, and I'm glad you're enjoying the videos.
It sounds like your hormones need some help in coming into balance. Obviously being 3 weeks late with negative pregnancy tests is frustrating as you'd like to get on to your next cycle so you can try again :-)
I'd highly suggest that you get ahold of the first 2 lessons and bonuses in my "Creating A Baby Friendly Body" course. I offer a free trial and you'll learn some great things in those lessons - things you can do starting right now to increase your fertility and help your cycles to become more regular.
You can get those lessons here: http://www.BabyFriendlyBody.com
I've found that for most women, the mucus flows out without you having to reach for it.
You'll get that wet, "I must have started my period" feeling, and then when you check, you just notice the mucus, and usually figure your in the middle of your cycle, so wouldn't be starting your period anyway.
There are some things you can do to improve the quality and quantity of cervical mucus.
Drinking plenty of pure water is one thing that can help.
You can learn more about this in the "Creating A Baby Friendly Body" course where I give lots of great ideas on how to improve fertility naturally.
Hi kirstyn, i used 30 mu ovulation test strips last month and it detected lh surge to a faint line..and it did not go to dark line..so that means i did not ovulate..but for this month i used 20 mu OPKs but it was not able to detect even slight lh surge.was my decision right of using high sensitive OPKs.Please help.
The main concern here is not so much which sensitivity ovulation predictor test was better, but that they both showed that you did not have the LH surge which meant that you did not ovulate.
Both, ultimately, gave you the same result.
You may want to do some things to help balance your hormones and increase your fertility so that you can ovulate more regularly.
Hi Kirstyn, I am currently trying to conceive and wondering if I am pregnant now. I took a test a few days ago and I got a negative. Although my breasts are sore, and the veins on them are very prominant, actually the veins around my chest are. I have large breasts so I am not sure that this is a sign. I am wondering how soon I will get a positive if I am indeed pregnant. I am not sure how long my cycles are because I just went off BC 2 months ago. Plus in the last day or so I have had really wet cervical mucus. So I am not sure if thats an indication of pregnancy or my period is coming. I am so anxious to find out and I would like your opinion. Thanks.
Thanks for your effort Kirstyn ! I see few ads about a new "OV watch" . its literally a watch tied on the wrist. this predicts the fertile days. Have you heard of this ? Is it worth a try ?
I love watching all your videos and the emails I get. We are in our second cycle of TTC and this will be our third child. I also had an ectopic pregnancy back before I got pregnant with our second. My question is: Do you have any information on getting pregnant after the IUD mirena, I think info on that would be very helpful to a lot of the readers here because more people seem to be using the IUD as a form of birth control. How long after an IUD does it take to get pregnant? I had mine removed 3/27/2009. Last cycle was exactly 28 days, just like it used to be before I had the IUD. I did ovulate but we didnt time things very well. This cycle: I ovulated two days ago (day 13) and I am more excited this time. I had egg white CM for the two days before and the day of ovulation and today I am two days past but am a little worried because I am still having pain on my right side. Someone told me that it may be a cyst. Can a cyst affect getting pregnant? Any info you have about cysts and Trying to conceive would be wonderful! Thanks again for all the info.

Hi Evelyn,
ReplyDeleteThere should have been one or two days that your ovulation test was darker than the others (if you have the kind where you can see how light/dark the line is).
To see a picture of a positive test at 9 days post conception, see this early pregnancy test page.
Best wishes,
Kirstyn

ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your body is trying to ovulate.
Your friend,
Kirstyn
Hi Kirstyn,
ReplyDeleteThis is Jane here again.I asked you in my first question regarding ovulation process.
This time I have few other hassles regarding detecting pregnancy.
Well,my last periods started on 20th Oct & this month in nov i didnot get my periods yet (i.e 25th nov)& I have never been so late .I did digital pregnancy test on 24th oct and it was negetive.
In all,symptoms like:
1.Missed Period
2.Menstrual Cramps a week before periods were due & on the date periods were due
3.Pain in Lower left abdomen (only once)
Since preg. test got negative, I am really curious to know what is happening.I have a doctor's appt. but after 1.5 weeks due to Thanksgiving.Plz help me what does it means
Thanx,
Jane
Hi Jane,
ReplyDeleteHormones can do the oddest things to our bodies.
Your friend,
Kirstyn

Dear Kirstyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the helpful tips! Most of it I had read before, but there were a few new bits of info that I'm sure will help.
I read somewhere that when trying to conceive, a man should not give oral sex to his wife. Is this true?
Thanks

ReplyDeleteHi Kirstyn,
ReplyDeleteRupa here. I have seen this video and it's really helpful for me. I learnt so many things after seen your tips.
One thing i don't understand about pre - seed lubricant. There are tubes and some pouches too. Which one is the best one to use and if i use do i get any side effects?
Many Thanks,
Rupa.
Hi Kirstyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the videos and tips. Just wanted to ask you a question on Ovulation during the periods. If someone does ovulate during the periods then how long would be luteal phase be for (post ovulation). Can there be a possibility of ovulating during periods and having a 28 day cycle ?
Hi Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if you have any advice for a 43 yr old trying to conceive for the first time.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteIf you're older and trying to conceive adopting a fertility friendly lifestyle and diet can be very helpful in boosting egg quality, regulating cycles and preventing miscarriage.
I've created a course to help you with this and you can learn more about it here:

Hi Kirstyn
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thank u so much for providing such useful info.., i like to share with u that since the time we have started trying for baby, my cycles range from 27 to 33 days sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWhat this means is...if you end up having a 36 day cycle, count back 14 days, and you would find yourself ovulating on day 22 in your cycle.

ReplyDeleteHi Kirstyn
ReplyDeleteThank u so much for your reply.I only got more than faint line for two days and thought that it would go darker today being 18th day, but sadly there was not even a faint line today.
ReplyDeleteI had that happen for a few months when I was trying for my fourth baby so I just worked on my nutrition, and didn't focus on baby making. Then one day I felt that egg white cervical mucus and took an ovulation test, and sure enough it was positive - we got pregnant that month.
Work on creating heightened fertility and you should start ovulating regularly.
Best wishes,
Kirstyn
hi kirstyn wonder if you could help me my last period was on the 2nd of march it lasted 29 days its my first true period since stopping the pill in january anyway i bought a ovulation kit on 11th of march test showed a faint line so tested again next day faint line then on 3rd day no line apart from the line that tells you the test has worked correctly could i have ovulated earlier like while im still on my period im so confused
ReplyDeleteHi Kirstyn,
ReplyDeleteI have been watching your videos and they have taught me so much.
Hi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words, and I'm glad you're enjoying the videos.

ReplyDeleteI've found that for most women, the mucus flows out without you having to reach for it.
ReplyDeleteYou'll get that wet, "I must have started my period" feeling, and then when you check, you just notice the mucus, and usually figure your in the middle of your cycle, so wouldn't be starting your period anyway.
There are some things you can do to improve the quality and quantity of cervical mucus.
Drinking plenty of pure water is one thing that can help.
You can learn more about this in the "Creating A Baby Friendly Body" course where I give lots of great ideas on how to improve fertility naturally.
Best wishes,
Kirstyn

ReplyDeleteHi kirstyn, i used 30 mu ovulation test strips last month and it detected lh surge to a faint line..and it did not go to dark line..so that means i did not ovulate..but for this month i used 20 mu OPKs but it was not able to detect even slight lh surge.was my decision right of using high sensitive OPKs.Please help.
ReplyDeleteThe main concern here is not so much which sensitivity ovulation predictor test was better, but that they both showed that you did not have the LH surge which meant that you did not ovulate.
ReplyDeleteBoth, ultimately, gave you the same result.
You may want to do some things to help balance your hormones and increase your fertility so that you can ovulate more regularly.
Best wishes,
Kirstyn

ReplyDeleteHi Kirstyn,
ReplyDeleteI am currently trying to conceive and wondering if I am pregnant now.
ReplyDeleteI love watching all your videos and the emails I get.

ReplyDeleteHi Kirstyn
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say thanks for all the information on this site. I'm happy to say that i'm pregnant.
Julie
Hi Kirsty (This was my post on August 5.2008)
ReplyDeleteWe have ben TTC for about 4 years.
New update: My baby is 5 months old today!
Hi Heidi,
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news! Congratulation on your baby. So glad you were able to overcome the miscarriage challenge and you have a precious little one to kiss and cuddle in your arms.
Thanks so much for the update!
